Bonus, an easy way to tie it into a cloud offering

Should be fairly hardware agnostic and able to run on cheap low power stuff

https://rockstor.com/  Seems the most promising.  Run by an opencollective uses btrfs, for fancy snapshot magic and raid stuff

For our "Managed" units probably run rockstor in a hypervisor to allow us to have other workloads
